Cycling, mountain biking: From the sea to the Comacchio lagoons

Going inland, away from the Lido, you will come to Via Cagliari; go right along this road until you cross under the Strada Statale 309 Romea highway at the bridge over the canal port.

After a few minutes you will reach the wide open, peaceful spaces of the Comacchio Lagoons.

After the Logonovo canal, where they fish from traditional huts using suspended nets, you will reach the Comacchio salt flats, the refuge of lively colonies of waterbirds, including the splendid pink flamingos.

Along the path towards the Casone Foce, you will be able to admire the Torre Rossa, an ancient defensive structure.

Guided walking or boat tours around the lagoons and salt flats leave from Stazione Foce.

To the right, following the road along the banks of the Fattibello lagoon, you will find the historical centre of Comacchio: bridges, canals, museums, churches, porticoes and the smell of freshly-caught fish are the features of this picturesque town.

A stop at the Manifattura dei Marinati, the historical eel-canning factory and museum, is a must if you want to learn more about this traditional process.

Once you have finished sightseeing in Comacchio, you can take the cycle path to Porto Garibaldi.
